Borneo Sabah 2 Days 1 Night Explore of Wildlife Conservation Tour

Trip, Leisure

Pulau Selingan

Pulau Selingan is the second largest of the three islands with an area of 8 hectares. A conservation programme has been in place since 1964, when the Fauna Conservation Ordinance 1963 (Act No. 11) came into force. On August 1st 1966, the first turtle hatchery in Malaysia was set up on Pulau Selingan, funded entirely by the State Government. Many turtles now return to lay their eggs and you can be certain of seeing them every night of the year. Of the three islands, Pulau Selingan is the most developed. It serves as the centre for the park’s administration. Visitors can stay overnight on Pulau Selingan to watch the green turtles but numbers are restricted to 38 persons per night to protect the turtles.

Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

Sepilok Orang Uten Rehabilitation Centre is located about 25 kilometers west of Sandakan in the state of Sabah , East Malaysia.

The centre opened in 1964 as the first official orangutan rehabilitation project for rescued orphaned baby orangutans from logging sites, plantations, illegal hunting or kept as pets. The orphaned orangutans are trained to survive again in the wild and are released as soon as they are ready. The sanctuary is located within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve which covers an area of 4,294 ha (10,610 acres), much of which is virgin rainforest . Today around 60 to 80 orangutans are living free in the reserve. It has become one of Sabah’s tourist attractions.

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre

The sun bear is the smallest, most arboreal and least known of the bear family , measuring between 120–150 cm long and between 60-78 cm high at the shoulder. Males tend to be larger than females, the former normally weighing between 30 and 70 kg, and the latter between 20 and 40 kg. They unlike other bears, the sun bear’s dark brown or black fur is short and sleek, probably due to the lowland climates it lives in. On their chest sits a pale beige horseshoe shape marking which gives the sun bear its name being said to resemble a setting or rising sun. Similar colored fur can be found around the muzzle and the eyes.

Here are allowing you to better understand why we want to protect them all. Some sun bears have the basic ability to survive. Conservation centre will restore and release back into the wild bear appropriate orphans. For captive bear can not be released to provide an improved long life environment. To protect the sun bear, conservation centre must continue to increase research and habitat protection, increased knowledge and awareness, to further protect habitat, so that they live a peaceful life.

Rainforest Discovery Centre

The Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) is the gateway getting to know the uniqueness and importance of Borneo’s rainforests.

Situated 23 KM from Sandakan town and not too far from the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre (SOURC), the RDC’s main highlights are its exhibition halls, the Plant Discovery Garden, the Kapili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, environmental education programmes and a small lake for boat rides.

The RDC also gives visitors a chance to get intimate with nature through its Nature Experience programme which includes a guided walk to the Plant Discovery Garden, Rainforest Walk and indoor / outdoor activities.

Birdwatchers will be fascinated by this place as it has one of the rarest birds in Sabah, The Borneon Bristlehead and another 250 species of other birds like the Hornbills, Broadbills, Pittas and Kingfishers. As of 2009, RDC has also become the official venue for the annual Borneo Bird Festival which attracts the participation of birding enthusiasts from all over the world.
