This beautiful, 16th-century château is situated in 30 hectares of parkland, with an outdoor swimming pool, orangery and formal lawns, with far reaching views across open countryside. A door leads from the terrace into a magnificent hall, hung with ancient tapestries, historic paintings and a stone fireplace. A stained glass window, depicting the family's coat of arms, illuminates the imposing stone staircase and the original kitchen has been preserved for its historic importance. The historic town of Bergerac, on the River Dordogne, and the region's wine growing capital, is nearby. Here visitors can take a river cruise or hire a canoe, visit the Maison du Vins, National Tobacco Museum, the weekly market, or simply relax in one of the many cafés, sampling the local Bergerac wines. The château at Monbazillac is open to the public, as are many local vineyards in the area.
