A large stone country house for 10, in the heart of the island The small village of Castineta in the region of Castagniccia (which means "chestnut grove") nestles among mountains and forests, near the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. Ideal for walkers.
The stone country house (250 sq. m.), entirely renovated in 2006, is rich in history, in one of Corsica's most authentic villages.
It has two levels. The ground floor encompasses: a summer dining room and winter dining room; fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom and two double bedrooms. The first floor has: a lounge, washroom; three bedrooms (two double and one twin beds). The spacious gardens (800 sq. m.) are fully equipped: swimming pool (6.50 x 4.50m) with system for "swimming against the current"; a large terrace with six deckchairs. The basement, accessible from the garden includes an additional bathroom.
Although there is no grocery store in the village, various travelling tradesmen bring fresh, local produce to your door: bakery (every day except Monday); grocer's (Monday afternoon); fresh fish (Wednesday morning), pizza (Thursday evening, pre-order); fruit & vegetables (Friday morning); cheese (Saturday morning). Local cold meats and sausages available locally.
Equipment: fridge; freezer; five-ring gas cooker and oven; microwave; coffee machine and Senseo coffee machine; dishwasher; washing machine and drier; flat-screen TV, DVD-player, library on Corsica (including CDs and DVDs).
The Castagniccia is a huge unspoiled landscape of chestnut groves away from the hustle and bustle of Corsica's tourist industry. The region houses the Corsican Natural Park, with miles of walking tracks. It is famous for its churches and is the historic heart of Corsica. The region includes remarkable sites such as Orezza and Piedicroce. Three kilometers from Castineta is the village of Morosaglia, the birthplace of Pascal Paoli, the father of Corsican independence in the 18th century. His house has become a museum. Corte and its inland citadel which houses the Museum of Corsica is 35 km away. The Castagniccia is also the home of the famous Corsican sausage! |
