France Chateauroux - Cottage Vacation Rentals in Indre Berry Region.
WELCOME in LES PETITS BERTHAIS
Pruniers is a village of 500 souls in the heart of the Berry region, 250 kms South of Paris. The Berry is rich in history ('les ducs de Berry') and in culture, but has not been discovered by tourists yet. The rivers Cher and Indre flow quietly. The scenery is hilly, with meadows and forest.
Our cottage is a stand-alone farmhouse at about 3 kms from our own house. Its construction is typical for this region and dates from around 1850. Most of its furniture and some of the equipment dates from the '50s - that's the 1950s; it is equipped for 6 with possibility for one additional person plus a baby - and you may bring your pets, they will have a great time too!
The house stands on 1000 m2 closed garden, surrounded by fields, with the Choeurs et Bommiers natural forest nearby. The well behind the house, in working order, is closed, so of no danger to small children. The cottage is due for classification by les Gîtes de France and their general conditions apply.
On the ground floor you will find a spacious living/dining room with a fireplace, the kitchen, bathroom with toilet and one bedroom. The whole attic is one big bedroom/playroom, which can be separated in two by a thick curtain. Behind the house is a terrace - enjoy the sun !
Les Petits Berthais is situated at two kilometers of the village center (bread, grocer's, bar, tobacconist's, postoffice), fresh eggs and milk can be bought at the neighbour's, or you can go to Lignières, at seven kilometers, to the supermarket. If you prefer, there's a market in Lignières on monday morning, and in St Août every tuesday morning.
Considering its location, at 3 kilometers from our house and the bed and breakfast, you could come over and enjoy the outdoor pool, go fishing or horseback riding. If you don't always feel like a chef and don't want to make dinner, you can join us for dinner at our table d'hôtes in the evening, if possible and upon reservation only.
The nearby forest and the country roads invite you to long, quiet walks (several villages have set out walks going from 5 to 40 kms) and bike-tours. If you prefer cultural activities, you won't be disappointed either: two of the most picturesque villages in France are to be found in the Indre region. Interesting daytrips - for all ages - can be made to the Loire chateaux and their famous vineyards, the Noirlac Abbey, the 'Vallée Noire' and the house of George Sand in Nohant, the 13th century watermill in Angibault, the gardens in Orsan, the romantic music weeks and the festival of traditional music, the Futuroscope, the Palace Jacques Coeur and the cathedral in Bourges, the Parc Naturel de la Brenne and the Parc Animalier de la Haute Touche, France's biggest outdoor zoological garden. Furthermore, there are many festivals, markets, antiques markets etc. in all seasons. |
